Your walking level guide
EASY
You enjoy walking , you like being out in the fresh air but don’t consider yourself as a “real hiker”. You like to walk to get exercise on your holidays, and enjoy walking and discovering in a different & fun way. Walks are generally from 2 to 4 hours a day on easy terrain, with some climbing up a few hills to towns. You don’t need to be an athlete at all to enjoy this trip !
2 . MODERATE
You enjoy regular exercise (whether walking, cycling, aerobics, playing golf, tennis etc). You’re in good shape, used to regular and sustained exercise. You are keen to set off on all-day walks, and can handle walking uphill (slowly) for up to 2 hours at a time. Walks are generally under five hours a day, on various types of terrain — though nothing technically difficult with plenty of stops. With some training beforehand you can go from the easy level to moderate.
3 – CHALLENGING
You have hiking experience and can negotiate rocky, technical terrain. You don’t mind a little scrambling along the way. You practise regular and sustained exercise, lasting up to several hours at a time. You must be confident at orienteering, and using a compass. Walks are from 4 to 7 hours a day, and lots of climbing.
