Carolyn is a fabulous guide but also an amazing host on our Lucca to Siena walk. We explored wonderful little boutique hotels and ate some incredible meals. Carolyn goes above and beyond the average walking holiday giving a full 8 day experience over the 7 night holiday. She also prepares beautiful picnic lunches instead of asking you to pick up a sandwich. The Tuscan countryside is stunning. I highly recommend walking with Carolyn.Posted on Kate IraniTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. So much to see and experience. Italy is Italy and definitely worth savouring in the local Italian sense. The towns we stayed in were stunning some more than others. It was the walking through the land, the people we passed, the homes, the dogs, the wine and bread we shared along the way that made this such an incredible experience. The routine was easy to follow and there was never any issue with last minute hiccups which were dealt with by a highly skilled, compassionate and dedicated tour leader like Carolyn. She is a calm and fun leader with the knowledge and giving spirit of a friend who guides with such ease that you have only to pack your bags and eat well at the local mamma’s tables. This experience gave me confidence to do more such travel alongside friends and family.Posted on Peter RobinsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have just experienced the most amazing, fulfilling trip - an 8 day walk from Lucca to Siena along the Via Francigena with Walk Local (Carolyn Travers). The small group of 10 bonded quickly and every day was a pleasure and a privilege. The Tuscan landscape featuring olive groves, farm fields and vineyards across rolling hills leading to beautiful hilltop towns steeped in history was a brilliant backdrop. But more so than the daily destination, the highlight was the journey itself. I think the Walk Local difference is having the tour creator with you, totally invested in providing the best possible experience for all. This includes meticulously selecting great accommodation - a superb mix of agriturismos, monasteries and small hotels. Evening restaurant choices were also wonderful, whether alfresco in the town piazza, sharing a Pizzeria with locals or experiencing magnificent home cooked meals from the host family… always a celebration and always washed down with local wine … Salute !! Our picnic lunches were a highlight… sourced fresh by Carolyn each morning from local markets, with mouth watering salads created and accompanied by local cheeses, meats and breads. This was indeed a most memorable experience and I will definitely be back to continue my journey with Walk Local. We had a marvelous adventure hiking through the beautiful Italian countryside. The scenery is outstanding from vistas over the Orcia Valley to narrow streets in ancient towns and villages. Our leader and guide, Carolyn Travers, took us to places most travelers would not visit including thermal baths, the best vineyards, pastoral agriturismos, and medieval villages. We sampled a variety of Tuscan dishes and became very accustomed to sumptuous dinners of primi, secondi and dolci. The highlight of the day was the picnic lunch brough by Carolyn – each day different and each day delicious. We have hiked the Camino Frances in Spain, the Way of St James in France and a section of the Via Francigena in northern Italy. This trip was by far the best thanks to a superb leader and such a wonderful group of fellow pilgrims with whom to share the adventure.Posted on Rita KellawayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Where can we begin to describe the amazing adventure that is walking with Carolyn Travers, tour guide extraordinaire, from Lucca to Rome. 24 days and 480 kms of sheer joy ….. mixed in a with a bit of hard walking! Reading Carolyn’s Facebook and Instagram posts gives a small idea of how much fun we had with a small group of like-minded adventurers. This is the first time we have ever travelled with a tour group and we picked the best. We feel privileged to have been part of this journey and can only say to anyone considering doing the trip – you won’t regret it. Just follow Carolyn’s trip preparation guidelines (lots of walking beforehand) and you will have the opportunity to gain a rewarding and exhilarating feel for the countryside, food and culture that is Italy. Every night was an opportunity to celebrate the days journey. Carolyn planned a trip with varied local accommodation from agriturismos, to convents, monasteries and small hotels where we were treated to Italian culinary delights with wine and laughter. Not to forget the superb lunches of salads and antipasto bought daily from local markets and prepared fresh by Carolyn at our walking lunch spot each day. A special trip that will give us treasured memories forever. Grazie mille Carolyn!!!!Posted on Rachel EagletonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband and I recently joined Walk Local Italy on a walk from Siena to Rome in September 2022. We had a truly magnificent time, and consider the trip “one of the best holidays we’ve been on”. The information provided before the trip with respect to gear and training were very helpful and then on the trip we had a clear idea of what we were doing every day. Carolyn ensured the group moved at a good pace, with time to take photos, stop for a rest/coffee/gelato and provided the most delicious picnic lunch every day (this was a real highlight). The accomodation was all good and the meals terrific. But I think the best part was the group, the places and landscape and just the journey itself.
